Modelo Group


Modelo Group, founded in 1925, is the leader in Mexico in beer production, distribution and marketing.

It has a total annual installed capacity of 70 million hectoliters. Currently, it brews and distributes 13 brands, including Corona Extra, the number one Mexican beer sold in the world, Modelo Especial, Victoria, Pacífico and Negra Modelo.

It exports six brands and is present in more than 180 countries. It is the importer of Anheuser-Busch InBev's products in Mexico, including Budweiser, Bud Light and O'Doul's. It also imports the Chinese Tsingtao brand and the Danish beer Carlsberg.

In the US, Modelo Group imports and markets its brands through its joint venture known as Crown Imports. In that country, three of the Modelo brands are among the top five imported beer brands and it is the only company to have its six export brands among the top 20. Corona Extra has been the leading imported brand in the US since 1997. Further, Modelo Especial is the third most popular imported brand in the US, Corona Light is the fifth –besides being the first among the imported light beers - Pacífico is the fifteenth and Negra Modelo the nineteenth.

The Sales and Marketing Division at Modelo Group coordinates the efforts to increase global sales and consolidate the presence of Grupo Modelo all over the world. Through our foreign offices we serve different markets in order to offer a better service to importers, distributors, consumers and clients and to ensure the success of the Grupo Modelo products.

The international expansion of the Modelo Group products began in the early seventies in the US. During the eighties Corona Extra became the fastest growing imported beer in the history of the US and since the mid-eighties the business world began to talk about the "Corona phenomenon". Later on production on Corona Light began, exclusively to be exported to the US market.

In 1985 Modelo Group began its expansion into other markets. It entered first in Canada and Japan, and later in Australia and New Zealand. In 1989 it began to export to Europe and, further on, Modelo Group reached Russia, Africa and Latin America.
